The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) is pleased to announce former Wimbledon Champions Martina Navratilova and John McEnroe as the first players confirmed to participate in The No.1 Court Celebration in support of the Wimbledon Foundation on Sunday 19 May 2019.
The event, a special exhibition of tennis and music, will test the new No.1 Court roof and air management system, showcasing live tennis in front of a capacity crowd of over 12,000, with proceeds from ticket sales donated to the Wimbledon Foundation, the official charity of the Club and The Championships, and the charities chosen by the participating players.
With several more former champions to be announced in due course, the programme will feature three tennis matches, interspersed with headline live music performances.
AELTC Chairman, Philip Brook, commented: “We are delighted to be hosting this special event to celebrate the unveiling of the No.1 Court roof and raise funds for some important charitable causes. We are very excited to be welcoming John and Martina to participate in the event as yet another milestone in their long histories with the AELTC and we look forward to announcing more players and some truly memorable entertainment in the coming weeks and months.”
Ticketing for the event will be conducted via online ballot. Information regarding the ballot process will be available via wimbledon.com/No1CourtCelebration from Thursday 17 January. Registrations for the ballot will be open for a two-week period with a maximum of two tickets per ballot offer.
