All England Club team up with TikTok to attract new generation of sport and music fans

London, UK, Monday 8 July 2019: The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has teamed up with TikTok, the world’s newest destination for short-form video, to create Wimbledon-based content for a new generation of sport and music fans.

The popular platform, the most downloaded app on the App stores for the last year, allows users to create short video content to the sound of their chosen backing track. Creators can string multiple clips together for up to 60 seconds of total recording.

The AELTC launched on the TikTok platform on the eve of The Championships having also launched on sister app Douyin, available in China, earlier in the year.

Best-performing content to date includes a mash-up of Nick Kyrgios to Dreadlock Holiday, and Mariah Carey’s ‘Through the Rain’ to the clip of the exploding sprinkler. Creators on the platform will be encouraged to put their own spin on Wimbledon through a platform-wide hashtag, JoinTheStory, tying in with Wimbledon’s broader marketing campaign.

“TikTok provides a brilliant opportunity for sports properties to showcase some of the character, personality, and humour of sport beyond the match action,” commented Alexandra Willis, Head of Communications, Content & Digital at the AELTC. “

"We are delighted to partner with Wimbledon and give our community the opportunity to get involved with such a prestigious Tennis Championship. This is a great opportunity for our creators to share their creativity and passion for tennis," said Edward Lindman, Strategy Manager at TikTok U.K.
