Bugs are an important part of our ecosystem and providing welcoming spaces for them is an easy and effective way to encourage biodiversity.

Think about creating natural nooks and crannies that will provide hidey holes for all sorts of insects and bugs. Bug hotels can be as simple as a tube cut from a recyclable plastic bottle stuffed with different sized twigs, pinecones, moss or leaves, to an architectural masterpiece involving all sorts of textures and materials.

Generally a warm dry place tends to be best so it’s a good idea to lift it off the ground so that rain water can easily flow out.

Hang it from a wall or prop it up with a brick or a log.
