The All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC) has today announced the decision to cancel the Road to Wimbledon Finals, which were due to take place at the AELTC from 9-15 August, due to the health & safety concerns surrounding the ongoing coronavirus crisis.

The Road to Wimbledon – the largest grass court participation event in the world – traditionally brings together 10,000 junior players aged 14 and under from around the UK and internationally compete in qualifying events with the ambition of travelling to Wimbledon for the Finals in August.

Jamie Baker, Tournament Director of the Road to Wimbledon, said: “While we are disappointed to take the decision to cancel the Road to Wimbledon Finals this year, the ongoing worldwide challenge presented by the coronavirus has meant it was not possible to safely stage the majority of qualifying events either here in the UK or overseas, which form a significant part of the competition.

“The AELTC felt that this, in addition to the ongoing uncertainty regarding the availability of medical provision and government guidelines concerning large gatherings of people, presented a compelling case for the cancellation. All being well, we are looking forward to celebrating the 20th staging of the Road to Wimbledon next year.”

The decision to cancel the Road to Wimbledon Finals was made in consultation with the LTA, which is a valued partner and responsible for administering the qualifying events held in the UK.
