Ladies' Qualifying action begins at Roehampton on Tuesday with 16 main-draw places up for grabs.

The draw features an exciting mix of veterans looking to claw their way back up the rankings and young talents keen to make it to Wimbledon for the first time.

Here are some names to look out for in the ladies' Qualifying draw.

Tsvetana Pironkova

Bulgaria’s Tsvetana Pironkova knows what it feels like to compete on Centre Court deep into the second week at Wimbledon.

The 33-year-old, currently in the midst of an inspiring comeback after a three-and-a-half-year absence from the Tour, was a semi-finalist at the Championships in 2010, and she reached the last eight the following year.

Pironkova, who had her first child in 2018, returned to action last August and immediately reached the US Open quarter-finals.

She’s on the cusp of breaking back into the top 100 and her build-up to Wimbledon Qualifying includes a semi-final showing at the W100 ITF event in Nottingham last weekend.

Wang Xiyu

China's former junior No.1 is looking to qualify for her first Wimbledon main draw this week at the Bank of England Sports Centre.

The 20-year-old lefty had a stellar junior career, winning the US Open girls’ singles and the Wimbledon girls’ doubles, the latter alongside her compatriot Wang Xinyu.

Fresh from a strong Roland-Garros campaign, where she qualified before stretching 2020 quarter-finalist Danielle Collins to three sets in the first round, the world No.137 Wang has enjoyed a smooth transition from clay to grass.

She reached the last 32 in the WTA 250 tournament in Nottingham, then marched to the quarter-finals at the W100 ITF there a week later.

 Renata Zarazua

Up to a career-high ranking of 131 this week, Renata Zarazua comes to south-west London brimming with confidence, thanks to a semi-final appearance at the W100 event in Nottingham, where she lost to eventual champion Alison van Uytvanck in three sets.

The 23-year-old, who last year became the first Mexican woman since 1993 to reach a WTA semi-final, courtesy of her exploits in Acapulco, takes great pride in her role of putting her nation back on the tennis map.

After successfully qualifying for her maiden Grand Slam main draw at Roland-Garros last autumn, Zarazua is bidding for a first Wimbledon outing and a second major appearance.

Monica Niculescu

With a signature slice-and-dice game that spins the ball in a way that has infuriated countless opponents over the years, Romania's Monica Niculescu is a joy to watch on grass.

The 33-year-old is looking to recapture some of the former magic that took her to the fourth round in singles at Wimbledon in 2015, and the doubles final in 2017.

Niculescu’s preparation for Qualifying included a last-16 showing in the singles, as a qualifier, at the ITF in Nottingham, where she also lifted the doubles trophy alongside Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Jule Niemeier

In just her second WTA main-draw appearance in Strasbourg last month, Germany's Jule Niemeier made a surprise run to the semi-finals, as a qualifier, toppling the likes of Andrea Petkovic and Shelby Rogers before falling to Roland-Garros champion Barbora Krejcikova in three tight sets.

The 21-year-old turned more heads on home soil last week at the WTA event in Berlin, where she qualified for the main draw before narrowly losing 7-5 in the third to world No.12 Belinda Bencic.

A skilled shot-maker with huge potential, the world No.168 Niemeier is making her Grand Slam qualifying debut this week in Roehampton.
